Three tabs you actually need
Budget tab for fixed + flexible categories, cash flow tab for money in vs money out, and goals tab for savings or debt payoff. Keep the layout simple enough to update in 10 minutes.
Starter categories that work
Example starter list: rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, health, debt minimums, savings goals, and one “fun” bucket. Fewer categories = more consistency.
Make the buffer visible
Add a buffer line on the budget tab (one paycheck or one month of expenses). That single line keeps the plan realistic and reduces stress.
Automation keeps the template alive
A template only works if it stays updated. Automatic transaction sync into a Transactions tab keeps formulas current and prevents drift.
